I'm no expert on Macs (in fact, I don't even own one), but it would seem 
you're not the only one experiencing problems: see if you can find helpful 
hints from the recent debate on the user list

Alternatively, you may want to try 1.6.5 and see if it fixes things for 
you: you can find it at

Of course, you'd miss all the nice things we've put into 1.7.0, but maybe 
1.6.5 is good enough for your project.

Two more things: I've seen in the past people who were able to bypass the 
problem of gretl not starting when clicked on a mac by running it from an 
x11 terminal; moreover, a bugfix release is due soon, but possibly not 
soon enough for you :-(

Just for the record: is your Mac an Intel Mac or a powerpc? If I'm not 
mistaken, the link above will give you a dmg of the 1.6.5 version for a 
ppc mac, while the 1.7.0 dmg is meant to be used on an intel mac.

Hopefully someone who actually _has_ a mac can be more helpful.
