This is XP. Following a hunch, I removed gretl via Windows' software
control panel and reinstalled (using 'runas' --shift right-click-- to
install as administrator although I'm logged in as a restricted user).

I still get the error (not enough memory for this command, in German
from the OS I guess) on exit, and strangely I now also have gretl
running in English...
