[Gretl-users] Installing version 1.7.9 from source code

Sorry - wrong e-mail address!

Is there a difference between the gzip source files for 1.7.9 on
Sourceforge and the Ricardo ftp server?

I tried to compile the Sourceforge version on a new installation of
OpenSuse and received an error message in the make phase. Then I
tried again using the gzip file downloaded from Ricardo. There were
two differences - (a) the configure stage asked for a different
version of the libxml2 library, and (b) after I dealt with this the
make stage was successful. Unfortunately, because of the volume of
make messages I do not have a record of the error message generated
by the Sourceforge code.

Finally, for some strange reason my attempts to install the generic
rpm file on OpenSuse fail because the package manager says that it
cannot find libblas.so.0 and liblapack.so.0, even though appropriate
versions of libblas and liblapack are installed with symbolic links
created for these two library names. Obviously there is some problem
in resolving library names.
